presentism
Judging past anachronistically
Presentism is judging historical figures and events by contemporary moral standards rather than the standards of their time: Critics accused the documentary of presentism for condemning 18th-century attitudes.
The term is usually pejorative, suggesting anachronistic moral reasoning.
In philosophy, presentism is separately the view that only the present moment exists—past and future have no reality.
