midroll

Interrupting video commercial

Midroll refers to an advertisement that plays during the middle of video or audio content, as opposed to before (preroll) or after (postroll).

The term comes from online streaming and podcasting: The podcast has two midroll ads.

Midroll interrupts content already in progress, often at natural breaks, and typically commands higher rates than preroll because viewers are already engaged.
