The Messiah
Prophesied anointed one
The Messiah refers to the awaited deliverer or savior in Jewish tradition—a future king who will restore Israel and bring an era of peace.
In Christianity, Jesus Christ is identified as the Messiah, the anointed one sent by God for humanity's salvation.
The term extends to any expected liberator or savior figure: Many saw him as the messiah who would transform the party.
Handel's *Messiah* is the famous oratorio depicting Christ's life. (Lowercase messiah is any savior figure.)
