messiah complex
Grandiose rescuer syndrome
A messiah complex is a psychological pattern in which someone believes they are destined to save others or transform the world.
The term suggests grandiosity and self-importance—the person sees themselves as uniquely capable of rescue or redemption: He developed a messiah complex after his first startup succeeded.
The phrase is usually critical, implying the belief is delusional or self-serving rather than genuinely altruistic.
