mastoid
Skull's ear protrusion
Mastoid refers to the prominent bone behind the ear—technically the mastoid process of the temporal bone.
It's shaped somewhat like a nipple, which gives the term its name.
The bone contains air cells that can become infected, causing mastoiditis: The doctor examined the swelling behind her ear and suspected mastoid involvement.
