sphenoid
Cranial keystone bone
The sphenoid is a butterfly-shaped bone at the base of the skull, forming part of the eye sockets and nasal cavity.
It articulates with nearly every other cranial bone, making it central to skull architecture.
As an adjective, sphenoid describes this bone or things wedge-shaped: sphenoid sinus, sphenoid fracture.
