man of war
Naval combat ship
A man of war (also man-of-war) is a warship, especially a large armed sailing vessel of the kind used from the 16th through 19th centuries: The Spanish man of war approached with cannons ready.
The Portuguese man-of-war is an unrelated marine creature—a colonial organism with venomous tentacles, named for its resemblance to a sailing ship.
