upper-case

Not small letters

Upper-case refers to capital letters—the larger forms of alphabetic characters used at the start of sentences and proper nouns: A, B, C rather than a, b, c.

The term comes from printing, where capital letters were stored in the upper of two type cases.

As a verb, to upper-case is to convert text to capitals: Upper-case the title.

Also spelled uppercase.
