capital letters
Sentence-starting characters typically
Capital letters are the larger, often differently shaped forms of alphabetic characters used at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns: A versus a, B versus b.
Also called uppercase letters, from the compositor's type case where these letters were stored in the upper compartment.
Capital letters also indicate acronyms, shouting in digital text, and emphasis: WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT ME?
