longitudes
Globe's vertical lines
Longitudes are imaginary lines running from pole to pole on Earth's surface, measuring east-west position relative to the prime meridian at Greenwich, England.
Unlike latitudes, which are parallel circles, longitudes converge at the poles.
The ship's position was recorded in latitudes and longitudes.
The term extends to any system measuring angular distance along a coordinate.
