oriental
Of the East
Oriental means of or from the East, particularly Asia.
The word once appeared neutrally in phrases like oriental rugs and oriental cuisine, but as a label for Asian people it is now considered offensive in American English—an outdated term that lumps diverse peoples together.
It survives mainly in proper names (Oriental Institute) and in reference to objects rather than people.
