frenulum

Small restraining band

A frenulum is a small fold of tissue that restricts the movement of an organ or body part.

The most familiar are in the mouth—the frenulum under the tongue connects it to the floor of the mouth, while another attaches the upper lip to the gum.

In male anatomy, the frenulum of the penis is a sensitive band of tissue on the underside of the glans.

The plural is frenula or frenulums.
