burp

Infant feeding finale

A burp is an audible release of gas from the stomach through the mouth.

To burp is to produce this sound, or to help a baby release swallowed air by patting its back: Don't forget to burp the baby after feeding.

The word is mildly impolite but not vulgar—the clinical term is eructation.
