laser disc
Pre-DVD format
A laser disc is an optical storage medium for video, the size of a vinyl record, read by laser rather than needle.
Popular from the 1980s through the mid-1990s, laser discs offered better picture quality than VHS tapes but couldn't record.
The format was a precursor to DVDs and Blu-rays.
