vinyl record
Grooved music disc
A vinyl record is a flat disc of polyvinyl chloride with spiral grooves that store analog audio, played by a needle tracking the grooves on a rotating turntable.
Records dominated music distribution from the 1950s through the 1980s before CDs and digital formats.
They've experienced revival among audiophiles and collectors who value their warm sound and tangible artwork: I found a rare pressing at the vinyl record shop.
