cardiac infarction
Blocked coronary artery
Cardiac infarction is the death of heart muscle tissue due to blocked blood supply—what's commonly called a heart attack.
The full medical term is myocardial infarction, often abbreviated MI.
The patient was admitted following a cardiac infarction.
The blockage, typically from a blood clot in a coronary artery, starves tissue of oxygen, causing permanent damage if blood flow isn't restored quickly.
