royal court
Sovereign's inner circle
A royal court is the monarch and their assembled attendants, advisors, and nobles—the people who surround a king or queen.
The term also means the place where this assembly gathers: Life at the royal court was governed by elaborate rituals.
Courts were centers of political power, patronage, and intrigue, which is why court alone retains meanings of seeking favor and formal legal proceedings.
