immunopathology

Immune damage study

Immunopathology is the study of disease processes caused by the immune system itself—when immune responses damage the body rather than protect it.

This includes autoimmune disorders, allergic reactions, and tissue damage from chronic inflammation.

The term also refers to the pathological changes themselves: The biopsy revealed immunopathology consistent with lupus.
