hydrogen-bonding

Weak intermolecular force

Hydrogen-bonding is the attraction between a hydrogen atom bonded to an electronegative atom (like oxygen or nitrogen) and another electronegative atom nearby.

This intermolecular force explains why water has a high boiling point and why DNA strands pair together.

The term appears as both noun and adjective: hydrogen-bonding interactions, the role of hydrogen-bonding in protein folding.
