ionic bonding
Charged particle attraction
Ionic bonding is a type of chemical bond formed when one atom transfers electrons to another, creating oppositely charged ions that attract each other.
This typically occurs between metals and nonmetals—sodium transfers an electron to chlorine, forming the ionic compound sodium chloride (table salt).
Compounds held together by ionic bonds tend to form crystalline structures and dissolve readily in water.
