nucleic acids
DNA and RNA
Nucleic acids are large molecules that store and transmit genetic information in living organisms.
The two main types are DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), which carries hereditary instructions, and RNA (ribonucleic acid), which helps translate those instructions into proteins.
The name reflects their discovery in cell nuclei and their acidic chemical properties.
