hustings

Pre-vote speechmaking venue

Hustings is the campaigning activity leading up to an election, especially the speeches, debates, and public appearances candidates make while seeking office.

Originally the raised platform from which candidates addressed voters, the word now refers to the whole campaign trail: She's been on the hustings for weeks, The candidates debated at the hustings.
