Star Chamber

Infamous English court

Star Chamber was an English court that met in secret, without jury, and had power to compel testimony and impose severe punishments.

It became notorious for arbitrary judgments and was abolished in 1641.

The term now refers to any secretive tribunal or proceeding where decisions are made without transparency or due process: The committee operated like a star chamber, issuing verdicts with no accountability.
