heterologous
From another species
Heterologous means derived from a different species or source.
In medicine and biology, a heterologous transplant uses tissue from a donor of a different species than the recipient.
A heterologous vaccine contains material from a related but different organism than the one it protects against.
The term contrasts with homologous (same source) and autologous (from the same individual): The patient received a heterologous bone graft from bovine tissue.
