graft-versus-host
Donor attacks recipient
Graft-versus-host describes a condition where transplanted tissue attacks the recipient's body.
In bone marrow or stem cell transplants, immune cells from the donor graft recognize the host's tissues as foreign and mount an immune response against them: The patient developed graft-versus-host disease after the transplant.
The full term is usually graft-versus-host disease, abbreviated GVHD.
