xenotransplantation
Interspecies organ transfer
Xenotransplantation is the transplantation of organs, tissues, or cells from one species into another—typically from animals into humans.
Pig heart valves have long been used in cardiac surgery, but the term now often refers to experimental whole-organ transplants: The patient received a pig kidney through xenotransplantation.
The prefix xeno- means foreign or strange.
