heliograph
Solar light telegraph
A heliograph is a device that uses a mirror to flash sunlight as a signaling method, sending messages in Morse code or similar systems across long distances.
The term also applies to an early photographic process and to instruments for photographing the sun.
As a verb, to heliograph is to send such a signal: They heliographed their position to the rescue party.
