headhouse

Transit building entrance

A headhouse is a building at the entrance to a larger structure, especially the aboveground portion of a subway station that provides access to underground platforms.

The term also applies to similar entrance buildings at mines, tunnels, or transit systems: The ornate Victorian headhouse marked the station entrance.

In horticulture, a headhouse is the work and storage area attached to a greenhouse.
