hallux

Innermost foot digit

The hallux is the big toe—the innermost and largest digit of the human foot.

The term is anatomical and medical: hallux valgus is the condition commonly called a bunion, where the big toe angles toward the other toes.

In other species, hallux refers to the equivalent digit, often the hind toe of a bird.
