Uric acid affliction
Gout is a painful form of arthritis caused by uric acid crystals accumulating in joints, especially the big toe.
Historically associated with rich food and drink, it was called "the disease of kings." The word also has an archaic meaning of a drop or splash, surviving mainly in heraldry: gouttes of blood.
