ground speed

Overland travel rate

Ground speed is the speed of an aircraft or vehicle relative to the ground beneath it, as opposed to airspeed (relative to surrounding air).

A plane flying into a headwind has lower ground speed than airspeed; with a tailwind, the opposite.

Ground speed determines how quickly you actually cover distance: Our ground speed was 450 knots.
