dragstrip
Quarter-mile sprint course
A dragstrip is a straight, paved track designed for drag racing—typically a quarter-mile long with timing equipment at both ends.
Cars launch side by side and race in a straight line to the finish.
The term extends to any stretch of road used informally for the same purpose: They turned the abandoned airfield into a makeshift dragstrip.
