climb rate
Vertical velocity measure
Climb rate is how quickly an aircraft gains altitude, typically measured in feet per minute.
Pilots monitor climb rate during takeoff and ascent: The small plane had a climb rate of about 500 feet per minute.
A high climb rate indicates strong engine performance and favorable conditions; a declining rate may signal trouble.
