common humanity
Universal human bond
Common humanity is the recognition that all people share fundamental experiences—suffering, joy, fear, hope—regardless of differences in culture, status, or circumstance.
The phrase often appears in appeals for compassion or moral action: The crisis demands we respond out of our common humanity.
It suggests that beneath surface distinctions, human beings are more alike than different, and that this shared condition creates obligations toward one another.
