galvanized pipes
Corrosion-resistant plumbing conduits
Galvanized pipes are steel or iron pipes coated with zinc to prevent rust.
Standard in home plumbing until the mid-20th century, they've largely been replaced by copper and plastic.
The zinc coating eventually corrodes from the inside, restricting water flow and introducing minerals that discolor water: The old house still has galvanized pipes that need replacing.
