arousal
State of excitement
Arousal is the state of being stirred up or awakened.
Sexual arousal is physical and mental readiness for sex: the physiological signs of arousal.
But arousal applies to any heightened state—emotional arousal, arousal from sleep, the arousal of suspicion or curiosity.
To arouse is to trigger such a state: The speech aroused the crowd.
