francs

Old French money

Francs are units of currency, historically used in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and various former French colonies.

The French franc was replaced by the euro in 2002, though the Swiss franc remains in use.

The painting sold for two million francs.

The word also appears in names of other currencies: the CFA franc used in parts of Africa.
