floppy drive

Magnetic disk device

A floppy drive is a device that reads and writes data to floppy disks—thin, flexible magnetic storage media housed in square plastic cases.

Standard from the 1970s through the 1990s, floppy drives were built into nearly every personal computer.

They've been almost entirely replaced by USB drives and cloud storage, though some legacy systems still use them.
