ENIAC

Early electronic computer

ENIAC, an acronym for Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer, was the first general-purpose electronic digital computer, completed in 1945 at the University of Pennsylvania.

It was developed primarily to calculate artillery firing tables for the U.S.

Army during World War II.

ENIAC filled an entire room, weighed about 30 tons, and used thousands of vacuum tubes.

The name appears in discussions of computing history as a landmark in the development of modern computers.
