flop
Bomb at theaters
Flop captures the motion and sound of something falling heavily and loosely: The fish flopped on the deck, She flopped onto the couch.
Things that flop are limp, ungraceful, or exhausted.
A flop is also a complete failure—a movie, play, or product that performs far below expectations: The film was a box-office flop.
To flop is to fail this way: The sequel flopped despite heavy marketing.
In poker, the flop is the first three community cards dealt face-up.
