botanical illustration

Botanical illustration is the art of depicting plants with scientific accuracy, showing details of structure, form, and color that aid identification.

Unlike casual nature drawing, botanical illustration follows conventions developed over centuries to serve botany and horticulture: precise rendering of leaves, flowers, roots, and seeds, often with cross-sections or life-cycle stages.
