filters
They screen out impurities
Filters are devices or mechanisms that remove unwanted elements while allowing others to pass through.
A coffee filter holds back grounds; an air filter traps dust.
The concept extends to digital tools that modify images or sort content: Apply a filter to brighten the photo, The algorithm filters out spam.
Social media filters alter appearance in real time.
To filter is to pass through such a process, or to move gradually: Sunlight filtered through the curtains, News of the scandal filtered out slowly.
