A color gel is a thin sheet of transparent colored material placed over a light source to change the color of the light it produces.
Used extensively in theater, film, and photography, gels attach to stage lights, flash units, or studio fixtures: We used a blue gel to simulate moonlight.
Though originally made of gelatin, modern gels are typically heat-resistant polyester.
