age gate
Maturity verification screen
An age gate is a barrier requiring users to confirm their age before accessing content—typically alcohol, tobacco, gambling, or adult material online.
Most consist of a simple date-of-birth entry or checkbox, easily bypassed by lying: The site's age gate asks if you're over 21.
Despite minimal effectiveness, age gates provide legal cover for businesses.
