ferromagnetism
Permanent magnet property
Ferromagnetism is the physical phenomenon that makes certain materials—iron, nickel, cobalt—strongly attracted to magnets and capable of becoming permanent magnets themselves.
Unlike weaker forms of magnetism, ferromagnetic materials retain their magnetization after an external magnetic field is removed.
The prefix ferro- comes from iron, the most familiar example.
