crock

Old clay jar

A crock is a thick earthenware pot or jar, traditionally used for storing food or fermenting: a crock of pickles, a crock of butter.

The word also means nonsense or rubbish, especially in the phrase a crock of shit—something worthless or untrue: His alibi was a complete crock.

As a verb, to crock out is to break down or fail, and a crock can be a decrepit person or thing.
