lustreware

Metallic-glazed pottery

Lustreware is pottery or porcelain decorated with a metallic, iridescent glaze that shimmers with rainbow-like colors.

The technique, developed in medieval Islamic ceramics and later adopted in Europe, creates surfaces that gleam like metal or mother-of-pearl: The antique lustreware pitcher caught the light beautifully.
