hammer throw
Spinning ball launch
The hammer throw is a track and field event in which athletes hurl a heavy metal ball attached to a wire and handle.
Competitors spin rapidly in a circle to build momentum before releasing the implement.
Despite the name, no actual hammer is involved—the term derives from an older event using a sledgehammer.
