ethnic neighborhoods
Immigrant community areas
Ethnic neighborhoods are urban areas where residents predominantly share a common national origin, culture, or heritage.
These districts often develop as immigrant communities cluster together, establishing businesses, restaurants, and institutions that serve their community: Chinatown, Little Italy, Koreatown.
The term is descriptive rather than pejorative, though such neighborhoods may reflect both voluntary cultural affinity and historical patterns of housing discrimination.
