mediator
Neutral third party
A mediator is someone who intervenes between disputing parties to help them reach agreement.
Unlike a judge or arbitrator, a mediator doesn't impose a decision but facilitates communication: The mediator helped the divorcing couple divide their assets.
The term extends to anything that serves as an intermediary or go-between: Art can be a mediator between cultures.
